We've done our best to include only wineries that feature the unique and fantastic wine grapes from Michigan's West Coast wine growing regions. These unique areas produce some of the most unique grapes for wine making in the world. The reason for this is in the dirt. The glacial areas that were laid out millennia ago left the sandy, well draining soil of Michigan's west-coast that is ideal for the growing of wine grapes.
For the remainder of this page, we're going to introduce to you, some of our personal favorites that are all within a "stone's throw" of the Metro Detroit area. This, of course, is not a slight on any of the wineries that we haven't listed here. In the areas surrounding Detroit, there are many upper echelon wineries opening up, for instance, in the Jackson area there has been an insurgence of superb wineries pop up. You'll also find great options in Albion, Adrian, Charlotte, Chelsea, Dexter, Fenton, Ferndale, Macomb, Northville, Rochester, Saline, Shelby, and last but not least, Tecumseh.
You'll find this quaint and friendly winery situated in the beautiful region in Michigan known as Irish Hills. They are located in an old schoolhouse that was built in 1870, and are family run and owned for four generations, and have been in continuous operation for over 100 years. Aside from their wines, which are varied in taste and aroma, they also offer a wide variety of accompaniments which offer a delicious taste of gourmet samples, which are super at clearing up the palate in between wine samples. You'll find that the Howell MainStreet Winery is a great place to sample some of the area's finest locally made wines which are, consequently, produced right there in Howell. They have a gorgeous tasting room, and offer a variety of cheese plates as well as stone oven pizzas for you and your group to enjoy during the tasting experience. Chateau Aeronautique Winery, located in Jackson Michigan, is truly one of Michigan's finest "Michigan Only" wineries. They offer a wide variety of their own locally crafted vintages, as well as a wide array of accompaniments with which to clear our palate after each sample. This self proclaimed "custom" winery is nestled in cozy Downtown Northville, and offers spectacular locally made wine with a twist... You can order customized wines that are made to your own tastes, and even further, these custom wines can come with your own personalized labels. You can sample their wines during the week (except on Monday) and on weekends.
